2024 GKRKB February Hats

A tradition seems to have been established that I knit a hat for each of the  5R's to collect when they come for Thanksgiving

An easy pattern to follow
I did not make the double brim just one thickness of K1P1 rib

I cast on 96 stitches as I tend to knit tightly so I had to modify the crown decreases

The body of the hat has blocks of different stitches
I followed the pattern exactly in the Pink Dust for miss B.

The others have various combinations of moss stiich and broken rib.
The purple and blue hats also have a slipstitch rib section

2023RKB Hats

There was enough yarn left from the camp blankets to make the 3R's their hats for the winter

This is a simple pattern which lends itself to stripes

I needed to do some juggling with the stripes but managed to get all 3 finished quite quickly

3Rs Camp Blankets #3

I think that I like this best of the three blankets.
It is more like patchwork and has more colours than the other two. the crochet edging is a little too tight on the corners of the final row but otherwise it looks good to me. I think 5 corner stitches might have been better than three on that final row

The centre square came out well. I used a similar idea to the one for R
this time it has a wider border in Aran and then the centre is Lilac with a Sky Grey letter B

Crochet edging of 3 rows completed
First 2 rows are double chain. First in Aran and second in Lilac. final row is single chain in Lilac

2022 Hats for 5 R's

I usually make a new hat for each of the 3 little R's each winter

This time I decided to make one for Mum and Dad too

A really easy pattern. Well written and easy to follow

I made a 2 inch double brim in K1P1 rib on all 5 hats
The Lilac is for B so it has 100 stitches and only 4 cable repeats before the crown decreases
All the others followed the pattern for the body of the hat as written

RKB's Toques

Lots of yarn left over from K's Red Sweater so decided to make him a hat

Very straightforward pattern

Maybe a little short for an adult and also a bit tight  for bigger heads but all in all a great pattern

69g red

Such an easy pattern used it to make a pink hat for B with the yarn left from her sweater

Made the brim and body a little shorter but otherwise as per pattern
67g pink

R needed a hat too. Hers is 96 sts and 6 1/2in body
Not enough blue for a solid colour hat so added pink stripes of B's yarn
63g blue + 21g pink =84g total

B's Shocking Pink Cardi

This is the cardi for little R#3

As with the other 2 cardigans I used the pattern as a guide

I used size 2 for stitches but size 4 for length

It still looks quite big but that's better than being too small

I designed a decorative border for the body but left the sleeves plain so that fingers don't get caught

Knitted the button bands up with the sweater which worked well for R's cardi
It's much easier than picking up or knitting separately

B's Navy Cardigan

Had quite a bit of yarn left over from K's sweater - way too much for hats so decided to make another little sweater for B

I used the basic raglan v neck Cardigan and added a decorative border

This yarn is very thin so I used a 4 mm needle but stuck to the 2 year old size.

I think it should fit as the Cloud cardigan I made for her was definitely a little big

No issues at all

Found these bright coloured buttons in my button box.  They have little white flowers on so they brighten it up nicely

B's Pretty in Purple Cardigan

Had quite a bit of yarn left over from R's Pretty in Purple so decided to make one for B
As I was using up different lengths, I knitted the body in one piece
As it turned out I didn't like the dark grey as it seemed too heavy
Managed to find some white DK yarn and used that to lighten things up

There probably would have been just about enough yarn without the white but it looks better to my eyes

Of course I now have some grey, purple and blue yarn left over!!
Definitely not enough for a sweater but may be some charity hats for next year

B's Lacie Gracie Hat

Found some scraps of left over yarn which were just enough to make a little hat for Miss B.
This looked like a great pattern but as usual I found I needed to make some modifications

I didn't like the rolled edge so ripped it out and used 4 rows of K2P1K2P2 rib

The lace rib looked quite clumsy with this thicker yarn so just did two repeats.

After that I followed the pattern

The hat came out quite long but should fit the little one easily

B's Cloud Cardigan

Had enough yarn left from my Cloud Cardi to make one for little Miss B.

Found a basic v neck pattern
It used 5mm needles which are too thick for this yarn so I went down to 4.5mm for the whole sweater except for the button bands.

The 4mm needles I used for the button bands showed that this yarn is closer to DK weight than worsted

I added a vertical eyelet panel to each of the fronts to add some visual interest to what would otherwise have been a very plain sweater.

I think the finished cardigan may prove to be a little slim but I hope not.

B's Little Green Cardi

This is the second little sweater from stashed Astra yarns
It turned out really well
I used the pattern for stitch and row counts but nothing else

The body was knitted in one from the bottom up to the armholes

This was easier when trying to use up odd lengths of yarn and made sure that the stripes matched across the whole garment

B's Aqua Lace Bouquets Cardi

Had quite a lot of leftover Astra yarn in a variety of green colours
I have no idea how long I have had it but it needed using up
Should be enough for 2 little cardi's for little Miss B

This is sweater #1

There was almost enough of the Aqua but not quite so I used some white as contrast.
I think it worked out very well
I did not do the lacy bits on the sleeves as little fingers can so easily get caught in the holes and I had the stripes to contend with too!

RKB's Winter Things

When R & K came to visit a couple of weeks ago, they each asked for a winter scarf as they didn't think they had any.
We looked through my stash and R chose this blue and white variegated yarn

Here's R's Scarf

We had used my snowflake scarf to see how long it needed to be and R liked the pattern so I made one for her. It curls just like mine but that seems to keep me as warm as a rib scarf

Size: 44'' long 35 sts wide
Pattern: Snowflake Scarf from Winter Lace Scarves
Yarn: Patons Canadiana
Colour: Light Pastels

Here's K's Scarf

K wanted an orange scarf and I had no orange yarn in my stash. It was easy to find a single ball at Len's Mill. It is a very bright neon so no one will miss seeing him
I decided a rib would be more masculine and used my mistake rib stitch pattern

Size: 44'' long 43 sts wide
Pattern: Mistake Rib
Yarn: Caron Simply Soft
Colour: Neon Orange

Here's B's Hat

It didn't seem right not to make something for B even though she is too little for a scarf.
So I found a hat pattern and some stash yarn for her

Hope they are ahead of the Christmas rush

More Christmas Stockings

When our family was here for Christmas it seemed that the little ones didn't have stockings of their own so I thought it would be nice to make them some.

I had lots of yarn left over from the stockings I made last year for my niece's family.

Followed the same pattern

Notes can be seen in this post:  Christmas Stockings
